Anyone with curls will agree--they are not the easiest to maintain--especially during the monsoon season. While the showers are a respite from soaring temperatures, the humidity can wreak havoc on one's skin and hair. From hairfall to a greasy scalp, there are a number of common problems faced by people.
"Overabundant moisture brought on by the monsoon is likely to harm your hair. To avoid damaging your hair, you must take additional care of it. It is important to properly handle hair issues like dandruff, frizz, excessive oiliness, etc. to prevent the weather from exacerbating the problem," explains cosmetologist Dr Swati Takkar.
With appropriate care however, these issues can be managed, and your hair can remain lustrous and shiny despite the unpredictable rain and clammy weather. "Every season calls for you to change your hair care regime and bring new products and variants that will help recoup any frizziness and dryness and bring back lustre to unmanageable, tangled hair," says Vaibhav, hair expert and R&D specialist from Crazy Owl, a wellness brand.
Below, they share expert tips on how to take care of your curly hair this monsoon.

Regular hair wash
The monsoon season is the wettest period of the year. Moisture is implied here, which harms hair. Washing your hair frequently is necessary to remove any remaining moisture. Other issues caused by moisture include dandruff and greasiness. Do wash your hair as soon as possible if it rains and gets damp. Rainwater has a lot of acidic characteristics that harm hair.
Keep your scalp clean
Wet hair is the easiest spot for bacteria to grow, so keep your scalp clean with regular wash. Use products that provide your hair with the appropriate amount of moisture and conditioning. To maintain the quality of your hair, it's crucial to use a shampoo that is suitable for your hair type and its needs.
Choose products and ingredients for your specific hair type All hair types are not suited to one kind of shampoo or conditioner. The products which claim to be multi-purpose are doing more damage than good! Hence, it is fundamental to pick products with natural ingredients which are safe for your hair type.

Moisturise enough
Greasy, oily, dry and damaged, be it any hair type, every type needs to be conditioned and moisturised regularly. In rainy seasons, one tends to deal with many different problems because of the weather and the constant pitter-patter. For most hair types, especially those with wavy or curly hair, frizziness is the major issue. You can be skipping a crucial stage by not moisturizing. Never overlook applying a hair moisturizer or frizz-free serum to wet hair after washing it. Your hair will be controlled and held in place.
Use anti-frizz hair care products
Do you know that there are hair products similar to those that fight frizz? Well, many individuals are unaware, which is why they struggle so much. Additionally, dandruff and hair breakage brought on by the monsoon's humid and wet air is both fairly frequent. Serums and conditioners are your best friend for frizzy or damaged hair. Avoid harsh chemicals and styling products as they can leave your hair more damaged and dryer than you started. Using a serum or leave-in conditioner with natural, wholesome ingredients will help your hair with recovery and nourishment.
Pick products dense in natural ingredients and vitamins The one universal tip for all hair types in all seasons is to use products rich in vitamins and natural ingredients. Being exposed to harsh chemicals can cause a lot of damage to hair follicles and give no nourishment. Choosing sustainable products to repair your hair with consciously curated products is vital.
Hot oil massage
The best way to maintain healthy hair is with a massage using hair oil. Regular oiling strengthens and makes hair glossy. It is recommended to get a hot oil massage using coconut or onion oil during the monsoon season. They are the most vitamin-rich and help keep your hair healthy. It's ideal to oil your hair the night before you wash it.
Hair mask
You might not realise how important hair masking is, yet it is the most important stage. Hair and scalp are both nourished by using hair masks. Your scalp allows all the required components to absorb into your skin, resulting in healthy hair. You may give your hair a homemade hair mask using products like curd, aloe vera, and eggs.
Proper diet and hydration
While many factors might harm your hair, your diet has the most impact on it. You must exercise particular caution since rain can harm your property in a variety of hidden ways. Maintaining a healthy and balanced diet is crucial to getting all the nutrients you need. The PH balance and hydration of your hair are both maintained by keeping yourself hydrated and drinking plenty of water.
