As National Harmony 2011 comes to an end, The Guide gives you a sneak peek into the events that took place and the closing ceremony slated for today
The Akhil Bharatiya Sanskrutik Sangh (ABSS) had organised an all India multilingual dance, drama and music extravaganza titled National Harmony 2011. The event which commenced on May 21, which marks World Cultural Diversity Day, is set for its closing ceremony on the occasion of World Artists Day on June 1. National Harmony 2011 saw around 6,500 artists participating from over 18 states in India. "Pune is identified as the cultural capital of Maharashtra, so this event is held here every year on the same date. Through this event, budding artists get a platform to showcase their talents, culture and traditions. Our aim is to showcase unity in diversity," said organiser Ratna Wagh.

"With over 6,300 artists from all over India participating in the event, it was like a rainbow in motion where each artist flourished. It was amazing to experience the rich culture and heritage of India," says Shilpa Danave, director of Margam Dance Academy, who was also one of the participants. The competitions include multilingual drama, mono acting, dance, seven styles of Indian classical and traditional folk music, Hindustani and Carnatic music, instrumental and electronic music. There were painting and Rangoli competitions as well. Participants included students from different schools, colleges and cultural institutes. In all there were 1,327 performances by artists from all over India. The closing ceremony will see 950 prizes and talent certificates distributed to all the participants.
