The 2017 Maruti Suzuki Swift shares its platform with the Baleno
Back in March this year, images of the next-gen Maruti Suzuki Swift surfaced on the Internet. Now, the car has been snapped in the metal by Facebook page Ferd, giving us a good idea of what the production-ready 2017 Swift will look like.
The car retains the current Swift's distinctive silhouette, but the design is now sleeker. Highlights include new alloy wheels, a large hexagonal front grille, along with a sporty new front bumper with aggressively styled fog lamp housings. Not only have the headlights been redesigned, there's some chrome detailing inside them that's similar to what we've seen in the Baleno. In fact, the Swift is based on the same platform as the Baleno, even though, on the surface, the changes seem evolutionary.
The updates are more extensive on the inside. As per the leaked renders that emerged earlier, the dashboard has been completely redesigned. The steering wheel is expected to be a three-spoke, flat-bottomed unit with some chrome detailing and a new set of mounted controls. There's a new twin-pod instrument cluster as well, with a digital MID in the middle, along with round central AC vents. It is also expected to get a touchscreen infotainment system along with rotary dials to operate the climate control. While the overall layout is new, a lot of components will be shared with the Baleno hatchback.

The engine options may be carried over from the current model, i.e., the 1.2-litre K-Series petrol engine and a 1.3-litre DDiS diesel mill. Maruti Suzuki may choose to offer the petrol with an automatic transmission and the 1.0-litre BoosterJet turbo petrol could be offered too.
Expect the new Swift to make its global debut in the first half of 2017, with the launch in India taking place shortly after.
