Hold that gaze
The Human Connection Movement, an initiative that works around the world towards binding people together, is organising an eye-gazing session in the city. Participants will sit across each other, silently holding each other's gaze for at least one minute. The idea is to let go of distractions, especially of the digital kinds, and sit in a safe environment, allowing oneself to be vulnerable. One can find a partner, or just find a seat and someone will accompany them shortly. Step one is to take a deep breath and let go of any expectation, be present in the moment and embrace whatever comes next. Once done, move on to the next person. For those who'd prefer to talk, they can, softly, only having completed the gaze. According to studies in psychology, most people are conditioned to avoid each other's gaze. Therefore, an event such as this is aimed at helping people break barriers. This session is part of a wider eye gazing movement that has had similar gatherings in public spaces around the world.

Unlocking doors of the heart
Watch poetry come alive on stage with a play that combines physical theatre and Spanish music
For someone who has written over 13 plays inspired by people around him, it felt unusual to share the pages from his own personal diary. Written over several years, director Omkar Bhatkar's poems will be unveiled on stage with physical theatre and ambient music. He explains, "It's a journey of different people who walk in and out of our lives. When they leave, they leave behind memories. The poems in this play capture those blue moments, which turn into nostalgia, when love leaves us dazed and shaken." A blend of poetry, theatre and mu-sic, the play titled Desires Blue, has been organically designed using workshops and not rehearsals. Bhatkar informs, "The actors were asked to internalise the poems. For physical theatre, the team took off for a week to an isolated beach and prepared the pieces there. The idea was to connect to the sea, stars and the sky." After researching on a few Spanish, German and French pieces with musician friend Jason Fernandes, they created unplugged versions on the guitar and the piano. The background score mainly depends on Spanish guitar chords.
The many artistic elements from sound to sight to scent make the play a treat for the senses. While artistes Lopa Shah, Manav Arora and Nishtha Juneja recite the poems without any movements. Anmol Joshi and Bhatkar set the poetry in motion using physical theatre by embodying the emotions of the poem. Alongside, Fernandes creates music using piano, guitar and ukulele.
For Bhatkar, this performance is about opening a locked door of his heart. "The play is for those, who have been in love or are always mesmerised by its mystery. It's a story of our lives, about our desires."
