Jaipur Literature Festival 2023: Sudha Murthy, Javed Akhtar, Shabana Azmi and Gulzar mesmerise audiences

After a phenomenal start to the 16th edition of the literature festival in Jaipur on January 19, the crowd kept coming on the second day to attend a wide variety of sessions discussing unique topics that not only kept the audience in splits but also mesmerised as they were enveloped with literature and poetry

After a delightful musical performance, the day started with Indian educator and philanthropist Sudha Murty in conversation with Mandira Nayar in the session titled ‘My books and beliefs’. Attended by children, parents and adults, it was one that had many interesting lessons and at the same time left the audience laughing at Murty’s absolutely brilliant oral storytelling. It was followed by a mesmerising session by Indian lyricist Javed Akhtar and actor Shabana Azmi in conversation with Rakshanda Jalil for 'Daeera and Dhanak: Companion volumes of Nazms by Kaifi Azmi and Jan Nisar Akhtar'. It was a day when not only Javed Akhtar took to the stage but also India’s other favourite poet and lyricist Gulzar spoke to Rakshanda Jalil for the session ‘A Poem A Day: 365 Contemporary Poems’. The Hotel Clarks Amer did not only see books but also art in different forms. While there are many bright art installations, the second day also saw some art on the walls as people walking by looked in awe at young artists paint their canvas with all shades of red, yellow and blue. Among the many installations at the entrance including a bright pink horse and blue angel wings that saw many take selfies, there was also one other artwork by Manjunath Kamat called ‘Private Poem, 2022’ on display.
