Chris Martin
Christopher Anthony John Martin, popularly known as Chris Martin, is probably the only band members that most people know from Coldplay because of his towering presence on stage as a singer-songwriter, pianist and music producer. Martin is one of the founding members of the band along with lead guitarist Jonny Buckland, who he met at the University College London in 1996. The duo did not take long to start writing their songs and even practicising them in 1997 before they met bassist Guy Berryman and drummer Will Champion in the next one year. The British singer, who is regarded as one of the most influential and successful singers in the 21st century, was born in Exeter to Anthony John Martin, who was a Chartered Accountant, and his mother Alison Martin, who was a music teacher. While he developed an interest in music early on, Martin also met Coldplay's band manager Phil Harvey, when they were in Sherborne School together.

Jonny Buckland
It is hard to miss Jonathan Mark Buckland, popularly called Jonny Buckland (left), who started Coldplay with Martin, as the lead guitarist of the band. Born in Pantymwyn, the Englishman took inspiration from the likes of My Bloody Valentine and U2 among others and started playing the guitar as a child. Apart from being a musician and songwriter, he also has a degree in Astronomy and Mathematics from the University College of London.

Guy Berryman
After Chris Martin and Jonny Buckland started the band, it did not take long for Guy Berryman to join the band. Apart from being a Scottish musician, songwriter and producer, Berryman is also a businessman and designer. Music changed his life when he heard Stevie Wonder's 'My Cherie Amour', and that is what made him also become a bass player. He was the third member to join the band after Martin and Buckland, and after that, the trio called themselves 'Big Fat Noises'. Berryman also has another band called Apparatjik, which he formed with his other bandmates in 2008.

Will Champion
Will Champion (first from left) is the last member to join the band in 1998, after the trio visited his house for the audition of his roommate, who was known to be a good drummer, but hadn't turned up. Champion played and became a part of the band, but was briefly removed from the band in 1999, after heated discussions over his abilities as a drummer. However, they brought him back after three days. This incident was the inspiration for the song 'Trouble', which was written as an apology to him, and appeared in their debut album, 'Parachutes'.

Phil Harvey
Even though Coldplay has only four playing members in the band, Philip Christopher Harvey, also known as Phil Harvey, is known as the fifth member. Harvey, who was with Martin in school, has been with them since their inception. Previously the manager of the band and responsible for handling Coldplay, during their initial years, he is now the creative director of the band.
