Rajasthan is ready to witness another festival of international proportions. Jodhpur RIFF, a festival of Folk music will return to Jodhpur this October. The festival has attracted top-notch artistes and connoisseurs of music from several countries in the earlier editions.
Bixiga 70, one of the most widely sought-after groups in Brazil, are set to perform at the festival
The festival hosts musical performances back-to-back from dawn to dusk for five days in different parts of the century-old Mehrangarh Fort. From calm Folk classical to Club nights, there is a splendid range of music on offer.
The festival offers Folk musicians from the host state the chance to exhibit their musical traditions passed down generations, and interact and jam with international outfits. The patron of the festival, Gaj Singh II of Marwar-Jodhpur, says, "The Rajasthani folk musicians are at the core of Jodhpur RIFF.
Music will be played from dawn to dusk at the Mehrangarh Fort
It is important that they feel a sense of pride and dignity, a sense of home and are able to present what their peers and elders consider authentic. At the same time, they realise that they have opportunities as artistes to create and collaborate with exemplary musicians from across Rajasthan and around the world."
The festival concludes with RIFF Rustle - an impromptu collaboration of artistes performing at the festival. Every year, the festival appoints an artiste as the rustler, who rustles up musicians from the festival to participate in this gig in pairs, quartets, or altogether. Apart from the usual acts, this year RIFF will present traditional storytelling forms of Rajasthan and their links to music under its Interactive Session series.
On October 13-17
