The Fox and the Crow, retold by Manasi Subramanian, Karadi Tales, is one such book. The crow steals a piece of bread and flies to a tree to enjoy the morsel. A hungry fox outwits him. Classic tale from Aesops. End of story? No.

The night merges with the fox, the fox begins with the crow and the crow… the crow is black. In the illustrations, the colours are intense. Hunger, angst, the politics of acquisition is vivid.

It is a book that you as well as your kids can pick and stay riveted with. Having earned an Honorable Mention in Huffington Post's list of Best Picture Books of 2014, The Fox and the Crow, by Manasi Sumramanian, illustrated by Culpeo S Fox, is superb.
