Relief through the lens

What: The aftermath of the 7.9 magnitude earthquake that hit Nepal and its adjoining areas on April 25 has left a catastrophic impact in the history of the country. While tremors were felt in the country again yesterday, the death toll crossed 8,000 and is likely to even hit 10,000, according to the country's Prime Minister. Thousands of victims were left hopeless, with no shelter and loved ones lost in the debris.

How: A group of 10 photographers in and around Kathmandu have started the NepalPhotoProject, capturing photos and videos as the rescue operations are underway. The group has also invited submissions from other photographers and people all around the world through their Facebook page and Instagram profile. They believe that these images can help gather information amongst aid agencies and those tracking their loved ones in Nepal. One of the photographers who visited Nepal on April 30 said that the places, which were majorly affected include Bhaktapur Durbar Square, Pathan Square, Lalitpur, Sankhu, Sindhupal Chowk, Kakani, Nuwakot and their adjoining regions. The Nepalese army has been working hand-in-hand with the victims even though they have personal losses to deal with. Relief camps were organised at various locations providing the victims with minimal amenities of life. The burning ground of the Pashupatinath Temple was not seen without funerals, during the five-day stay of the photographer.
