While everyone might have a story to tell, not many can weave those words into an effective screenplay that can cross boundaries. For budding screenwriters, the Asia Society India Centre has announced its third New Voices Fellowship for Screenwriters (NVFS) 2015-16 programme.

It aims to encourage and support independent Indian screenwriters, helping them hone their craft and ultimately, tell stories that have a scope in the global movie market. Seven contestants will be a part of the eight-month long fellowship programme that includes two, five-day long intensive workshops, mentoring, peer feedback as well as a stipend of Rs 2,00,000.

Experts such as Anjum Rajabali, Devika Bhagat, Jaideep Sahni, Sriram Raghavan and Juhi Chaturvedi among others will guide the fellows. We like that the programme has taken a holistic approach by also providing guidance on how to pitch scripts to production houses as well as other professional and legal aspects like contracts, copyright and safeguards.

This year's theme is Making Heroine the New Hero, asking contestants to submit original stories written from a female character's point of view.

Application deadline: July 31
