This Thursday, head to a special astronomy lecture curated by Chandra Wickramasinghe, director of the Buckingham Centre for Astrobiology, where he will discuss the arising of human life in a cosmic context.
The idea that life is a phenomenon centered on the Earth has dominated Western science and philosophy for many centuries. From the beginning of the 20th century, Earth's physical position in the universe has diminished to the point of utter insignificance in a world of almost unimaginable proportions.
Despite this transformation, the role of biology, as an Earth-centered phenomenon, has been maintained against all the odds, which would be proved faulty considering the new evidences.
In this session, Wickramasinghe will explore evidences from Astronomy, Geology and Biology that will show our cosmic connection . He will also discuss about the transformation of human psychology that will follow from the acceptance of the cosmic nature of life.
