On the occasion of International Women's Day last year, Amazon Prime Video announced its all-women show Hush Hush. With a strong ensemble cast comprising Juhi Chawla, Soha Ali Khan, Shahana Goswami, Kritika Kamra, Ayesha Jhulka and Karishma Tanna, and creative director-executive producer Tanuja Chandra leading the team, the project instantly piqued audience curiosity. Joining forces with an all-women team has been a novel experience for Khan. She says, "I had such a wonderful experience with Tanuja. It's the first time I am working with a female director."
The series, which has six women sharing their stories of passion, anger and deceit, is helmed by Kopal Nathani and penned by National Award-winning writer Juhi Chaturvedi. Khan says it is refreshing to see women bringing their own interpretations to the screen. "Hush Hush is gritty and real. Often, we would be wearing the same costumes for days and sport no makeup. [We had to showcase our] raw emotions. So, it was an exhausting and emotionally draining shoot. As an actor, it made me empty myself in a way that I haven't done in a long time."
The series marks Chawla and Jhulka's debut in digital entertainment. "This was my first collaboration with Juhi, but I don't have many scenes with her. The story mainly revolves around Kritika, Shahana and my character. Since we are good friends off screen, it helped the dynamics."
