Kratika Sengar and Kevina Tak in Choti Sarrdaarni
Returning to television after a two-year hiatus, Kratika Sengar will make up for lead actor Nimrit Kaur Ahluwalia's absence from Choti Sarrdaarni. The actor was initially set to return to work in 2019 after her show Kasam Tere Pyar Ki ended in 2018. "I wanted a break so that I could spend time with my family. Although I was ready to come back in 2019, [a personal emergency deferred my plans]. I was not in the frame of mind to work. By the time things went back to normal, the lockdown was announced," begins Sengar.
Choti Sarrdaarni will see her play Meher's friend Sandhya who suffers from memory loss. Contrary to rumours, the actor insists she is not replacing Ahluwalia. "I wouldn't have taken up the role if I was to replace her. Nimrit was unwell and needed a break from the show for a few days. The channel wanted a known face to make an entry. We want people to love the character so that the TRPs are not affected in Nimrit's absence," she says, adding that it will be a cameo. "We haven't discussed the number of days, but it's a cameo [for now]. I don't know if my role will get an extension or not."
Shooting in the new normal has been a first-of-its-kind experience for the actor. When she is not facing the camera, Sengar says she is busy sanitising her surroundings on the set. "Every time I enter the van, I wash my hands. I sanitise my costume and the chairs at least 15-20 times in a day and the costume. I told everyone in my unit that I don't want to see anyone without a mask."
