Stand-up comic Amit Tandon moves to television with reality show Good Night

Stand-up comedian Amit Tandon has spent more than a decade in the business and has always kept it clean. His observational humour catering to family audiences is his forte, something he learned and honed one year into his career. "I didn't [always] do clean comedy when I started a decade ago," remembers Tandon. He says that his set wouldn't fare well if he saw a 65-year-old man in the audience listening to his edgy jokes. "I would [become] conscious. This happened for a year, and I decided to write jokes that I can perform for everyone. Fortunately, that became my brand."

Taking his brand of comedy to television, Tandon is all set to create a new show titled Good Night for Sony SAB. "There is a huge market in our country which craves clean comedy. Something that they can enjoy with their families without having to worry about the awkward vibe in their living rooms. Good Night is a wholesome entertainment [show] for families. We aim to bring back the era of comedy before slapstick became a thing and the only source of laughter on the TV was natural and clean humour," explains the comedian, who is sure the content will work as he "found acceptance on YouTube and live shows".

The show, much like The Great Indian Laughter Challenge, aims to bring people from diverse background and locations to share their stories. "It's a classic [format] that never goes out of style. A group of people - from ex-navy professionals to young college goers - each telling unique stories that are raw and unhinged, [constructed from their] personal experiences. The show had to be relevant and [relatable] for everyone," adds the showrunner who will also moonlight as the host.
