Ken Ghosh on the challenges that the platform poses as he gears up for his third show, Haq Se
Since his last cinematic venture hit screens seven years earlier, Ken Ghosh has helmed three web outings. His third project, the upcoming romance drama, Haq Se, brings together two of the tube's most revered artistes - Rajeev Khandelwal and Surveen Chawla - for a show that is being touted as the adaptation of the classic novel, Little Women. Ghosh talks to mid-day about the chemistry between his lead actors, and the growth of the digital space.

Can you tell us something about the show?
Haq Se is inspired by Louisa May Alcott's classic novel, Little Women. The story about four sisters is set in Kashmir. It chronicles their journey, and their dream of a better tomorrow. One among them is passionate about music, while the other desires fame. The third sister hopes to bring about change in society by becoming a journalist; the fourth aspires to be a pediatrician. It is set to air in a few months.
Why did you pick Kashmir as the backdrop of your show?
Kashmir is ideal, both for the story and its ability to visually enhance an outing. It has its own trials and tribulations, beauty and tension intertwined. Little Women was also set in a cold place [New England].

Does the turmoil in Kashmir find place in your series?
This is not a political series. It's an emotional drama. However, the goings-on in Kashmir will be shown in the background. We are not making any statements.
Are you enjoying the web space?
Indeed. It's fun and interesting. I don't think it is the future; it is the present of the visual era. The challenges one faces while making a web show are similar to those that arise when making a film. It is not easy to keep the material interesting, and constantly hold the attention of an audience that loves to binge-watch. Also, as of today, we have to make the shows look as grand as films, with a limited budget. That is a challenge too.
Why did you opine that Rajeev Khandelwal and Surveen Chawla would be ideal for it?
Rajeev and Surveen have incredible chemistry, and we needed that for the show. Even a shot of them simply looking at each other is interesting.
How was it to work with Ekta Kapoor for Alt Balaji?
This is my third collaboration with her for her web platform. We've previously worked on Dev DD and Ragini MMS Returns. The beauty of working with her is that she has an understanding of a good script, and reacts like a viewer, not a filmmaker. To have that ability, after being in the industry for long, is commendable.
