My character is that of a Casanova. He's colourful and naughty," Gaurav Chopra says on the onset of this interview. What follows, takes us off-guard. "The role I play, is a lot like how I am as a person," he says, as we continue to decipher whether the admission makes him proud. FourPlay, a long-running play that features Chopra as a love guru, is set for a web adaptation on Ekta Kapoor's Alt Balaji, and the actor couldn't be more ecstatic. "Ekta, with her understanding of what works on TV, has an impeccable sixth sense. There is a reason she is called the queen of television. She opined the play would make for a good web series," he says about the act, which he describes as a "typical David Dhawan comedy".

Based on assorted couples looking to spice up their lives, the play has seen Chopra as a returning cast member for eight years. While he initially romanced former flame Mouni Roy, he is now paired alongside the "exciting young lady," Kubra Sait. "We have a flirty relationship." Even though the title may suggest otherwise, the actor promises that the web adaptation will not hinge on sexual content to attract eyeballs, like most series of digital outings do. "Most web shows, these days, have a lot of sexual content, but this one isn't like that," he says, quick to point out that it isn't inspired by Ranveer Shorey and Konkona Sen Sharma's Mixed Doubles (2006), which had partner swapping at the crux of its storyline. "But, partner swapping is only one part of our show, not the punch line."

The creative freedom that the web space offers has always appealed to Chopra, who has vociferously spoken up in favour of it. "I have shot for a web series before, but this will be the first one to release on the medium." An upcoming outing Try-Sexuals on video streaming platform Viu, is also in the pipeline. "I play an evolved, matured lover, who liberates lovers. My character is called Rahil Khan and I'm paired opposite Tara Alisha Berry." The show, which will display the current scenario of relationship and commitment issues, also stars Udaan fame Rajat Barmecha.
