Adaa Khan
Known for her negative roles on TV, Adaa Khan makes her reality show debut with the Rohit Shetty-hosted venture, Fear Factor Khatron Ke Khiladi. The actor talks to mid-day about surviving the stunt-based show through sheer will power, and shopping in Bulgaria.
Edited excerpts from the interview.
Tell us about your Khatron Ke Khiladi stint in Bulgaria.
I had recently wrapped up my previous show, Sitara. Despite being ill, I came on board Khatron Ke Khiladi as I have always wanted to be part of it. My family was not too keen, but I was adamant on doing the show. I wanted to test my will power.

Did the show help you overcome any phobia?
While I don't have a phobia per se, cockroaches always scared me. I would scream if I found one in my vanity van or room. On the show, I have dealt with cockroaches and rats. I never knew I had it in me to do it.
The series is designed to wear the contestants down, physically and mentally.
We used to shoot from morning till 2 am, only to wake up again at 7 am the next day. So, it was physically tiring. Eating right and resting were mandatory to survive tasks. Before every task on KKK, I had bouts of nervousness. Firstly, I was unwell before I began the show. Secondly, I was not physically as strong [as compared to other contestants]. So, I would be stressed because the competition was tough. I believe my strength to perform the tasks came from my will power.
How did host Rohit Shetty encourage you during the tasks?
Rohit sir was the only reason I could do the stunts. I listened to him blindly. He motivated us to do better; he would insist that we complete the task at least. I wouldn't have survived this show had it not been for Rohit sir.
Were you injured during tasks?
Luckily, I did not meet with any accidents. However, during a task that had us dealing with creepy crawlies, a cockroach lodged inside my ear. For long, I couldn't figure out if [the irritation] was real or something I was imagining. I couldn't sleep all night as the insect kept fluttering in my ear, which gave me rashes. The next morning, the crew took me to a doctor who removed the cockroach. That was a scary experience. I also got some allergies from scorpion bites.
Who was your biggest competition?
Tejasswi and Dharmesh [Yelande] were excellent in most tasks.
Did you get back some memorabilia from Bulgaria?
I bought a lot of rose oil since Bulgaria is famous for it.
