What happened?
Justin Timberlake has been arrested for driving while intoxicated. According to a report by People Magazine, Justin was taken into custody by the Sag Harbor Police Department. The 43-year-old is expected to release a statement soon. A source mentioned to the publication that the âSexy Back' hitmaker was having dinner at the American Hotel and was pulled over after leaving the spot while on his way to a friend's house. "Nobody was hurt. He will be arraigned in about an hour," said the source.
Why was Justin in the news recently?
Last year, Justin made headlines after garnering backlash on social media for accusations of sexism and misogyny towards Janet Jackson and Britney Spears. After the documentary 'Framing Britney Spears' rehashed their breakup, it revealed how he publicly passed sexist comments for the Grammy-award winner and said he had slept with her and later vaguely accused her of cheating on him.
On the other hand, during the 2004 Super Bowl scandal, Timberlake openly pulled back part of Jackson's outfit and exposed her breast amid the performance. This caused a mass public outcry and an aggressive investigation by the Federal Communication Commission. During a 2006 interview with Oprah Winfrey, Jackson stated that she felt "all the emphasis was put on me, not" following the controversy "as opposed to us." Asked if she felt like Timberlake had "left her hanging," the singer replied, "to a certain degree, yeah."
Justin issued a public note to apologise to both women. wrote, "I've seen the messages, tags, comments, and concerns and I want to respond. I am deeply sorry for the times in my life where my actions contributed to the problem, where I spoke out of turn, or did not speak up for what was right."
