Talking about her simple docile character in the film, Kiara Advani said to mid-day: "The character is simple, but it is a strong one. It took a share of internalising to [bring forth] that vulnerability and pureness, at the same time. At times, playing a simple character can be difficult. In the past, I have played expressive and lively roles. That is also how I am, as a person. So, I had to channelise [my emotions] to play this part."

Kiara Advani also shared how different this romance is. The actress said in a media interaction: "Through this film, we are trying to say do not go on a self-destruction path as it is not good for you and your loved ones. We are not propagating that or glamorising that in any way. One should not do what Kabir is doing."

Kiara Advani also said that Kabir Singh, played by Shahid Kapoor, is not propagating self-destructive love. She added: "For me, it is ok to be a protective lover but there is a thin line between becoming an obsessive lover and a protective one. Kabir is not obsessive, he is a protective lover. He loves her a lot and she is head over heels in love with him. It is a passionate, intense, innocent and raw love story."

Directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, Shahid Kapoor and Kiara Advani's chemistry has intrigued the audience for more from the actors. While Shahid plays a self-destructive alcoholic, his performance has been widely applauded in the trailer.

Recreating the Telugu drama Arjun Reddy that sees its protagonist become aggressive and an alcoholic after a failed romance, Kapoor finds himself battling the same questions on chauvinism that plagued the original film.
