Sunny Kaushal
As swiftly as he says his debut music track has been created with the aim of reaching a wider audience, Sunny Kaushal admits that his choice of language can be a hindrance. "But Punjabi is the language I think in, and also the one I use to communicate with my family. If there's something that I wish to express in Punjabi, that's how I will do it," says the actor, confessing that adding subtitles to Jhandey would make it palatable for a wider group of listeners.
The Chor Nikal Ke Bhaga actor kicked off his rap journey in the lockdown, learning the tropes of creating music to fit the genre when he planned to address his music career with more attention.
"At the time when everything stopped, I looked at [writing] as an outlet for my emotions. I began articulating how I felt, and it kept turning into poetry. Then I started writing long-format songs, and took classes to learn about rapping and poetry. Since this is the first song that I wrote in 2020, I thought it fitting to begin this journey with it."
Kaushal harboured the desire to learn music since his childhood, indulging in the work of Hip-hop artistes like Eminem and Bohemia. "I write songs about relationships, being in love, heartache, and also about things that happen in the world, and social issues."
