Swades actress, Gayatri Joshi, met with an accident in Italy recently. She was with her husband, businessman Vikas Oberoi. As per Free Press Journal's report, her car collided with other vehicles and a camper van in Sardinia. Reportedly, the collision happened when several high-performance vehicles, including a Lamborgini and Ferrari, attempted to overtake the camper van simultaneously, causing it to overturn.
Gayatri confirmed the news to Free Press Journal and said, "Vikas and I are in Italy. We met with an accident here (multiple-car collision). With God's grace, we both are absolutely fine."
Reportedly, the Ferrari was affected the most which led to the death of a couple seated inside. They were identified as Melissa Krautli, 63, and Markus Krautli, 67, from Switzerland. A video of the accident went viral on X.
Gayatri, who made her acting debut with Shah Rukh Khan's Swades, won the Femina Miss India International in 2000. Soon after the film's release in 2004, she left the industry. Gayatri got married to Vikas Oberoi, the Managing Director of Oberoi Constructions in 2005 and has two children named Yuva and Vihaan.
In 2019, Gayatri opened up about quitting the industry after delivering a blockbuster. She said in an interview with Bollywood Hungama, "I am very open-minded and enjoy listening to scripts. I was sure that I would get some good opportunities in the future. I wanted to do roles that would relate to me. I won the best debut actress award so I was happy that people liked my work. But sometimes things don't go as you plan."
Talking about marrying Vikas and leaving Bollywood within a year of her debut, she shared, "I met my husband Vikas Oberoi and at the same time I was happy with my career but felt that I could do more than films. I could have done films after marriage but I decided to leave the industry as my family wanted me to give them time."
While Gayatri did just one film, she starred in music videos such as Jagjit Singh's Kaghaz Ki Kashti and Hans Raj Hans's Jhanjaria. The actress also participated in the Femina Miss India pageant in 1999.
