Rajkumar Hirani, renowned for his films' compelling narratives and emotional depth, continues to make waves with ‘Dunki', his latest release starring Shah Rukh Khan, Taapsee Pannu, Vicky Kaushal, and Boman Irani. The film has captivated audiences globally and now adds another feather to its cap with an invitation to the prestigious Shanghai International Film Festival (SIFF).

Rajkumar Hirani will attend SIFF as a Film Representative, where ‘Dunki' will be showcased in the esteemed International Panorama section of SIFF 2024, scheduled from June 14 to 23. Audiences can catch screenings of ‘Dunki' on June 15, 18, and 20. This selection marks a proud moment for Hirani and underscores the growing international recognition of Indian cinema.

Established in 1993, the Shanghai International Film Festival (SIFF) is accredited by the International Federation of Film Producers Associations and is renowned for its non-specialized competitive platform.

Dunki features an ensemble cast with colourful characters portrayed by exceptionally talented actors Boman Irani, Taapsee Pannu, Vicky Kaushal, Vikram Kochhar, and Anil Grover, along with Shah Rukh Khan. A JIO Studios, Red Chillies Entertainment, and Rajkumar Hirani Films presentation, produced by Rajkumar Hirani and Gauri Khan, written by Abhijat Joshi, Rajkumar Hirani, and Kanika Dhillon. Dunki was released on the big screen on 21 December 2023.

‘Dunki' focuses on the issue of immigration, with its title taken from the term "donkey journey," referring to the long, often dangerous routes people take worldwide to reach the places they want to immigrate to. With Dunki's success, SRK has three back-to-back hits in his kitty.

In an interview with Pinkvilla, when asked if the storyline of ‘Munnabhai Chale America' was similar to Shah Rukh Khan's ‘Dunki', as both involved characters aspiring to go to America, Rajkumar Hirani responded by saying, "No, that was a completely different story. That story was basically in a nutshell about George Bush, who at that time had made some anti-Muslim statements. The whole story was these guys got very upset with it, and they said ‘hum jaate hain George Bush ko pakad ke India le kar aate hain (We'll go to America and bring George Bush to India)' so it was a story like that."
