Kajol and Shobhana Samarth
Flashback Friday: Actress Kajol comes from a rich lineage of talented women who have worked in the Hindi cinema. The actress who herself has been a part of the film industry for over three decades is the daughter veteran actress Tanuja. Her sister Tanishaa Mukherjee is also an actress. Her maternal aunt was actress Nutan and her maternal grandmother, Shobhana Samarth, and great-grandmother, Rattan Bai, were both involved in Hindi cinema. On Friday, to mark the 107 birth anniversary of her grand mother Shobhana, Kajol shared an unseen picture from the year 1944.
Kajol took to her Instagram feed to share the picture of a magazine cover dated September 10, 1944 with her young grandmother being the sole face of it. She is seen adorned in royal jewellery including a heavy crown. Along with the cover of The Illustrated Weekly, Kajol showered love on her grandmother by noting down her qualities and strength and the influence she had on the following generations of their family.
"On her 107th birthday .. here we have the OG Sita who was at one point and still is to my way of thinking one of the most beautiful women in the world. One of sharpest and most forward thinking women of her time. Who bought her own filters from the United States when they were not available here for her close ups in films!!! Who knew and managed not only her own finances but her daughters as well and with great success I might add. And yes also had a huge hand in raising her seven grand daughters. This is true #feminism ! For all those who ask me what it means and where I get my attitude from," wrote Kajol remembering her grandmother.
