Milestones of iconic films deserve grand celebrations, and that's precisely why there was palpable excitement around the 20th anniversary bash of JP Dutta's 1997 war-drama 'Border'. While the filmmaker had asked the cast a month ago to make themselves available for the bash, Sunny Deol decided to give it a miss.

Sunny, who played the key role of Kuldip Singh, was shooting a crucial scene for son Karan's launch pad 'Pal Pal Dil Ke Paas', for which he had secured special permission.

A source informs, "It took a lot to get the necessary permissions. Delaying or canceling it could cost the film dearly. It wouldn't have been monetarily feasible to shoot that scene on a later date."
When we reached out to Sunny, he told us, "Border is and always will be a very special film for me. I had shared with JP that I always wanted to do a war film. Then, one day, he narrated the film's subject to me. Working on it was a dream come true. It's sad that I missed the 20th year celebration of Border since I am shooting for my son's debut film."
The bash was held yesterday at a suburban hotel. It marked the launch of a special edition coffee table book replete with trivia and anecdotes from the shoot.
