It might not be common knowledge but those in the music industry are aware that vocalist Farhan Saeed of Jal fame has parted ways with the band.

The singer who was in Mumbai recently told CS that it was an amicable parting. "The main reason for going our separate ways was that the other members felt that we have touched our peak as a band and need to maintain it. I felt that we have just started out and need to be progressive. I want to go all out when it comes to my career," he said. Now that he's embarked on a solo career, Farhan says that he's ready for Bollywood, but doesn't want to lose his identity:

Who: Farhan Saeed
What: On his solo career

Flying solo
I have recently sung a Punjabi song for a film. There is also one track I have sung for composer Mithoon called ‘Naam-e-wafa' which might be used for a Hindi film. Another song, by the name of ‘Roiyaan ankhiyaan royiyaan' is also ready. This song too, might be used for a film. I don't want to lose my identity. I will be coming out with albums as my fans look forward to them. I don't want to become a playback singer completely. My plan is to release albums along with playback singing. I'm more of a singer than composer, so I would love to sing for other composers too. As a singer, that's the challenge for me.

Need more rockstars
Everywhere in the world, there are rockstars who're much bigger than the film industry. U2 is huge and so is Tom Cruise. But none are insecure of the other. India is huge and we should have thousands of rockstars here. Bollywood is coming up with musician-oriented films like Rock On and Rockstar. When they can play a rockstar in a film, why not have rockstars in real life? Musicians are people who can reflect the country's identity on a much bigger level. Music has no language. A Hindi band performing anywhere in the world will attract an audience. I have seen goras going crazy when Nusrat saab used to perform. That's the power of music.

Inspired by the legends
There are two legends who have affected me a lot. One is Nusrat saab and the second is Jagjit Singh. I'm very lucky to have Jagjitji a year before he passed away. He was performing in Delhi and I went up to him and for 15 minutes I just kept telling him that I'm a big fan of his. Meeting him changed my life in a way. About Nusrat saab, what can I say except that he's a legend. And it is from Sonu Nigam that I have learnt how to express. Listening to his songs is like a lecture on expressions for me. I would love to sing with him someday. u00a0
