Has picked up remake rights; will call it Sanki. Wants Khan to staru00a0
After 2008's Ghajini and this year's Wanted both remakes of South movies did extremely well, B-Town makers have started picking up the rights to hit South films. The latest in this list is Sajid Nadiadwala.
It is learnt that Sajid has bought the rights of Telugu movie Kick. The film, a May 2009 release, was a super success and many filmmakers had their eye on it for remake rights. Boney Kapoor and Vashu Bhagnani were also in the fray, but Nadiadwala pipped them to the post.
Finally!
Says an insider, "The producer will remake the film with good friend Salman Khan in the lead. Sajid has been wanting to work with the actor for quite some time now. Last year, he even registered the title Sanki but never found the right script. When he heard about Kick's story (about a man who does things only when he gets a 'kick-about-it'), Sajid knew his search was finally over. The story of a temperamental guy is tailormade for Sallu." The film will go on the floors sometime next year.
Building on it
Nadiadwala confirms the development, "I have bought the remake rights of Kick. I have been picking up rights for a while now. But I don't like to remake the film entirely. I like to take a little plot point from the film and build on that. My movies Judwaa (1996), Har Dil Jo Pyaar Karega (2000) and even Mujhse Shaadi Karogi (2004) were all based on some remake or the other. I find it very unethical to simply lift things. If I like something, I pick up the rights and then interpret it differently. For this film, I have Salman in mind. But we are currently working on it and it's too early to say anything definite."
Kick ki kahaani
Kalyan (Ravi Teja) is a guy who loves challenges and cannot live without getting a "kick" out of doing things.
He falls in love with Naina (Ileana D'Cruz) for a "kick," but she leaves him after Kalyan lies about his job (he joins a job and resigns the next day). Naina goes to Malaysia, where she forms an alliance with a tough cop, Kalyanram (Shaam), who is on a mission to catch a notorious thief (Teja, again) who has been stealing money from rich people in India and has got away with it.
