Yet, Manish Malhotra hardly looks harried and has energy to answer unending press questions on the day of the preview to his collection, which will be showcased today. "It might seem like a lot, but I enjoy the rush," he tells us. Known for his ornate lehengas, Malhotra will leave his female fans a little dejected as he is presenting a menswear collection this
season.
Called The Gentleman's Club, the collection will also be a slight shift from his usual ethnic style of clothing and other than sherwanis and bandhgalas, one can expect suits in very modern silhouettes from the designer. The colour palette will take a darker turn with loads of navy blue, black and even emerald green.
Time to celebrate
2015 is a momentous year for the designer. While his label completes a decade, Malhotra, who loves Bollywood and started his career as costume designer and stylist for films, also completes 25 years in the industry. And as a fitting tribute, his show will be held at Mehboob Studios in Bandra.
Ask him about his first memory at the studio, he tells us, "It was in 1990, I had gone to the studio with photographer Rakesh Shrestha, and was the first time when I met Sridevi." Ask him to name his favourite films, he feels be it Raja Hindustani, Rangeela, Kal Ho Naa Ho or Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, every film he has worked on has been a different experience and all are favourites in his heart. "Though if I had to pick one of the most difficult ones, it has to me Shankar's Robot. But that is mainly because of geographic reasons - as it was based in Chennai and we were shooting all over the world," he reveals.
A favourite with the stars, the showstopper for his show will be none other than one of the biggest stars today, Ranbir Kapoor. And our final question for the ever-busy Malhotra - Just how does he manage to look this good under all the pressure? He gives us a simple mantra, "I follow basic grooming; and regular pedicures and manicures are very important."
