Little Fockers
U/A; Comedy
Dir: Paul Weitz
Cast: Robert De Niro, Ben Stiller, Owen Wilson, Jessica Alba, Teri Polo
Raitng:'1/2
What's it about: It's become somewhat of a trend to keep churning sequels whether or not they are able to sustain the interest and wit of the original. Little Fockers should be the final nail in the coffin for what Meet The Parents started out with a few years ago. Robert De Niro and Ben Stiller were genuinely funny and entertaining in the original, but now they embarrass themselves in the third installment. This time Jack (De Niro) suspects his son-in-law Gaylord (Stiller) is cheating on his daughter (Teri Polo), with a sales associate (Jessica Alba).
What's hot: Little Fockers does have an eclectic castu00a0-- Owen Wilson, Dustin Hoffman, Barbara Streisand, and Deepak Chopra. Fans of the franchise will want to revisit the awkward yet funny chemistry between De Niro and Stilleru00a0-- two actors who light up the screen together. Slapstick comedy, gags about private parts, crude and vulgar jokes are many.
What's not: Through out the film, there's this ever-looming cloud of doom. Every thing is uncomfortable and unnecessary. Exposing a four-year-old to issues of erectile dysfunction and penis sketches is disturbing. There's always a thin line between telling a joke (like the hair gel one in Something About Mary) and going too far with it. Fockers loses its charm and humor in the attempt to go all out. It seems as if Stiller and De Niro agreed to do this only for the fat paycheque. The supporting cast doesn't have much to do except to make faces at what's happening around them.
What to do: It's unintentionally funny and superfluous. Strictly for rental on a rainy day.
