Kalki Koechlin denied work visa in San Francisco

Directed by Rajat Kapoor and starring names such as Kalki Koechlin, Atul Kumar, and Namit Das, Hamlet - The Clown Prince is a comical adaptation of the Shakespearean tragedy of the same name. The play was supposed to be staged in San Francisco last week, but it did not happen.

It turns out that the work visas - needed by Kalki and the entire cast and crew to perform in the US - were not issued. When the organisers of the play and director Rajat Kapoor got word that their visa applications have been turned down, they were shocked.

Confirming the story, Kalki said, "I don't know the details. But I was told that our play was not ‘culturally unique' enough and that our work visa was not issued." The organisers were unavailable for comment.
