Mickey Mehta, India's leading holistic health guru and life coach certainly champions the cause of wellness -- be it social, psychological or physical. He's recently launched the Heal the World campaign that urges urbanites to become better human beings and do their bit for the society at large.
And even as he waxes eloquent about all that we can do, he's ensuring that he leads by example. Having brought in his birthday shooting for his third DVD, Grow Tall with Mickey Mehta, he tells CS, "I've always worked on my birthday. That's my way of adding value to other's lives and it's my celebration." Mickey who turns 49 today talks to CS about being the change and fitness:u00a0
Making the world a better place
The idea behind Heal the World is to encourage all of us to do micro mini charity everyday to uplift society. It might be in the form of distributing food packets to the urchins on the road or just handing out blankets to the destitute and homeless; freely gifting a smile or just wishing well for others; not cutting our domestic helps' salaries when they take leave or recommending jobs to the dhobi's son -- there really is a lot that we can do. And trust me, this social wellness will reflect on your face, your health and will transform your personality. You could show your support for the campaign on www.facebook.com/mickeymehtahbf or log on to www.mickeymehtahbf.com.
Another project that will soon get me busy is Faces, a talent hunt organised by MiD DAY, for which I'm the wellness partner. I will be grooming the contestants at a physical, emotional and spiritual level to help them become finer human beings.
On your plate
Fitness and healthy eating should be an important part of our lives, especially since we Indians have a tendency to gain weight. I keep joking that if we would share 50 per cent of our food with the hungry, we would lose weight automatically. But on a serious note, eliminating grains from your diet would help. That would mean giving up roti, bread, rice, pasta, pizza etc. Vegetarianism can play an important role in weight loss. I believe that 50 percent of your food intake should be raw and fibrous as it increases your metabolic rate and fills you up.
Healthy and wise
I exercise for two hours everyday. I eat a lot of fruits, drink several cups on green tea and consume ayurveda herbs. And yes, I make sure that I sleep for a good eight to nine hours. I also spend a good amount of time praying and meditating. Studies show that meditation and breathing exercises improve immunity and the functioning of the digestive system. It is unfortunate that materialism has deprived us of the time to mediate. When you're busy chasing things, there is bound to be a shortfall of energy, sleep and ailments. It's a vicious circle.
