Doesn't call for a party

Abhay Deol is clearly not an 'it's my birthday' person. After he turned 25, he stopped celebrating his big day, and since the last three years he's been working on his birthday.

The actor has never been given a surprise party and he can't recall a birthday memory that he might cherish. But today is going to be a wee bit different.

(We wonder if it's all due to his recently rumoured engagement to model Preeti Desai!) For once the actor will not be working and he will also do a quiet dinner with family and friends. Abhay, who turns 35 today and has gifted himself a property in Goa as a present, gives CS his take on birthday celebrations:

Down memory lane
I am definitely not a birthday person, and I am also quite terrible at remembering birthdays, except for the ones that fall in March. So my friends usually get quite annoyed with me for not wishing them. On the flip side, I'm quite okay if people forget to wish me on my birthday. I used to party hard till I turned 25. Probably that's why I don't have any memories of my special day (laughs). Now I choose to be sober so that I can form some memories.

Surprise, surprise
Frankly, I don't think you need a day to celebrate something. The most special things happen by the way, when you don't plan them. Which is why I don't really like to plan my bashes. I've never been given a surprise party in my life, but come to think of it, I wouldn't mind getting one.

Maybe I should start dropping hints to my friends. Like everyone else, I like getting gifts, but I'm also unaffected if people don't give me gifts, if you know what I mean. If I really want something, I go ahead and buy it for myself instead of waiting for someone to gift it to me. This year, I've gifted myself a property in Goa.

Star struck
I'm a Piscean, though I don't really believe in horoscopes. People say that Pisceans are supposed to be imaginative, creative and lost in their own world. Well, I'm all of that. I'm quite the lost guy. But I think I also have traits associated with other zodiacs, so I don't know how reliable these star signs are.

But I've been really fortunate where my career is concerned, so I can thank my lucky stars. I'm really excited about the year ahead because I have a couple of interesting projects lined up. I guess this is going to be a new phase of my life.
