She's all of 23, already flirting with stardom and she knows exactly what it means to have a huge fan base. But she handles her work and celebrity status as though she was born doing it. Genelia D'souza thinks that all women specialise in balancing their personal and professional lives.
Wow woman
I think every woman in this world is proud to be one. As women, we are conditioned to make the best of all the opportunities that come our way and we deal with every obstacle with strength, grace and dignity. We start assuming responsibility very early in life. I think the best thing about being a woman is the fact that we are the perfect balance of the heart and head.
Over the years, I've come to believe that women are capable of dealing with every adversity and come out strong and shining. My role model has always been my mother. She's my constant companion, my 24x7 motivator and someone who personifies elegance, compassion and terrific strength. And of course, the amazing ability to multi-task! You can never take that away from a woman.
Femme fantastic
It is unfortunate that we are still quite a male-centric society. But things have improved a wee bit since about a decade. There are greater opportunities for women now. It is heartening to note that in a very empowering way, women are pushing their potential to the maximum and are walking hand-in-hand with men. Look at the number of women CEOs, politicos, law enforcement officers and directors, we have around.
India is finally sitting up to take notice of its female population. Starting at the grassroot levels, with education as a priority for the girl child to declaring a woman as the most powerful lady in Indian politics, we are on the road to women's empowerment in a big way.
Ladies first
Financial independence is one of the keys to women empowerment. But financial independence comes from education and that's a cause very close to my heart. Films and TV serials also play an important role in creating awareness about important women-centric issues. I too try to ensure that my films carry a message. In every role that I've essayed, I've tried to stay away from portraying characters that are stunted and uninspiring. I try and play the woman of substance.
