B-Town enthrals Durban at a star-studded awards gala

Considering that Indian immigrants form the second largest group after the majority Zulu population in Durban, the sight of just anyone from tinsel town is enough to send them in raptures


From Priyanka Chopra to John Abraham and to Karan Johar or even telly actors Rithvik Dhanjani and Asha Negi, only the levels of decibels differed at the red carpet ceremony of the South Africa India Film and Television Awards (SAIFTA) held in Durban over the weekend.

Among the B-Town folk at the event were Ranveer Singh, Sidharth Malhotra, Amy Fernandes, Suniel Shetty, Tusshar Kapoor, Divya Dutta, Mukesh Bhatt with son Vishesh, Mohit Suri and Udita Goswami, Waheeda Rehman and Abhay Deol with girlfriend Preeti Desai, Amit Sadh and Manish Paul with Elli Avaram. Karan Johar and Dia Mirza hosted the event with KJo as usual making his tongue-in-cheek comments.

While Priyanka Chopra and Ranbir Kapoor bagged the best actor awards, Sidharth Malhotra and Huma Qureshi bagged the best newcomer awards. Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Divya Dutta along with Rani Mukerji got the Best Supporting Actor trophies. Abhishek Kapoor bagged the best director award. Mithoon Sharma received the award for the most popular song Tum Hi Ho. John Abraham was given the Youth Icon of the Year award.

On the television front, Gurmeet Choudhary and Kratika Sengar bagged the best actor trophies. South African artistes were also honoured at the event that had Nelson Mandela's granddaughter Ndileka in attendance.u00a0
