Grandmaster Vishwanathan Anand was in Pune on Tuesday to inaugurate the Golden Future Chess Tournament at Amanora Park Town.



Mid Day Entertainment successfully brought together Vishwanathan Anand and the Global Mind Sports Foundation for the same.

Speaking at the talk show post the event, Anand said that chess was one sport that India had taken up in a big way and that Indian players were very competitive in the world arena.u00a0

The talk show was hosted by cardiologist Jagdish Hiremath and Bhaskar Das, president, Bennett Coleman and Company Limited (BCCL).

When Hiremath asked Anand about the future of chess in India, he said, "We figure among the top five or 10 countries in the world. But there is still a lot of scope to teach people about chess and to appreciate the game."
