Teaming up with stylist Pyu Mishra, Shantanu's outfit inculcated Indian crafts, which had an upper edge of a traditional sewing technique called aplik, which is an ornamental needlework that comes from Gujarat. In this technique, patches or patterns are sewn onto the base fabric by hand. The creation was put together by designer Rohit Bal for this look.
To celebrate Shantanu's roots in Rajasthan, the stylist opted for a bandhgala , with a very young, fresh, and modern approach to it. The silhouette has an open front, and classic jodhpuri pants were replaced with a flared, layered linen trousers. The motifs on the bandhgala are inspired from the magnificent beauty of nature's flora and fauna. Pure chanderi silk has been appliqued onto, it to create a botanical art piece.
Coming to the jewellery donned by Shantanu, the stylist layered a silver disc lemon quartz chain with a silver zircon necklace, for a peek-a-boo effect under the bandhgala. Shantanu's look is completed with an exclusively handmade Peshawari jutti, embellished with ivory pearls, created by none other than Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla.
About Shantanu previously at Cannes 2024
Shantanu Maheshwari unveiled the poster for his upcoming movie âLove in Vietnam' at the prestigious 77th Cannes Film Festival. For this special event, the âGangubai Kathiawadi' star chose a unique Chikankari outfit, a classic Indian craft from Lucknow, reimagined with a contemporary twist.
Shantanu collaborated with ace designer Shahab Durazi, donning a sleek and modern shacket instead of the traditional chikankari kurtas or bandis. The shacket, a stylish blend of a shirt and a jacket, was intricately embellished with pearl and crystal beading, symbolizing a fusion of French and Indian aesthetics. The patterns featured Fleur-de-lis (lily flowers) and Indian paisley, reflecting designs from the post-Mughal Kashmir region.
Along with the detailing of the outfit, Shantanu's stylist, Pyu Mishra, also ensured that the accessory with his outfit, was beautiful rustic tribal silver jewelry from Jaypore, a contemporary interpretation of age-old Indian tribal craft. To complete the ensemble, Pyu added timeless monk shoes, hand-painted with a cityscape of Kolkata, adding a personal touch to his look.
