A herd of 10-12 buffaloes crossing rail tracks were hit by a suburban local train on Wednesday morning with three of them dying on the spot.

Officials said that the incident occurred at 5 am between Ghansoli-Airoli section of the trans-harbour line. “This is not an identified crossing location for cattle. After the incident, the owner of buffaloes was summoned at the site and arrested. Though there was no damage to the train, it was detained for 45 minutes,” a CR spokesperson said.
