Mumbai bandh
Almost a week after the Bhima-Koregaon violence sparked tension across the state, the Pune rural police arrested 43 youths on charges of attempt to murder and rioting and detained three minors. Of these, 23 were produced in court on Tuesday and sent to police custody for two days. An officer said, "The minors were produced before the Juvenile Justice Board and issued a warning."
Fake bandh post
Meanwhile in Solapur, businessman Vishal Pratap Satpute was arrested on Monday for allegedly uploading a post on Facebook and circulating WhatsApp messages regarding a state bandh on January 10 in the name of an organisation working for the Marathas. Sources said the post went viral a couple of days back. It mentioned that Sakal Maratha Samaaj had announced the bandh to protest alleged attacks on Marathas post the Bhima-Koregaon violence.
Aparna Gitay, zonal DCP, Solapur police, said, "When we inquired with Sakal Maratha Samaaj members, we got to know that the post was fake. The cyber cell was pressed into action and the accused arrested." She added that Satpute did not create the post, but he shared it despite knowing it was fake.
